🤔 About Secret Shop#

A Creative Space in Progress#

Secret Shop is a creative workshop and community space in Osaka, Japan.

It is built for people who enjoy making things — games, software, art, music, hardware, animation, films, tools, prototypes, and strange little ideas that do not fit neatly into one category.

Game development is one of our main entry points because games naturally bring many creative and technical disciplines together. Programmers, artists, designers, musicians, writers, makers, and players all have a place in the process.

But Secret Shop is not only for game developers.

It is for people who are curious, creative, technical, experimental, or simply excited to build things with others.

🛠️ Built by Hand#

Secret Shop is still being built, one project at a time.

The space is a DIY effort from the ground up — from renovation and lighting, to furniture, work areas, event setups, kitchen improvements, and community tools.

That process is part of the identity of the space.

We believe in learning by doing.

We believe in starting before everything is perfect.

We believe a community space can grow together with the people who use it.

Secret Shop is not a polished corporate venue.

It is a working space, a gathering place, and an ongoing project.

🎮 Why Games?#

Games are one of the best ways to bring different kinds of creators together.

A small game project might need:

  • Programming
  • Art
  • Animation
  • Sound
  • Music
  • Design
  • Writing
  • Production
  • Testing
  • Marketing

Because of that, game development becomes a practical meeting point for many different skills.

Someone may come to Secret Shop because they are interested in games, but end up meeting a musician, filmmaker, hardware tinkerer, artist, programmer, or writer.

Those intersections are where interesting things happen.

🌱 What We’re Building Toward#

Secret Shop is growing into a place where people can:

  • Attend game dev meetups, game nights, workshops, and creative events
  • Drop in during Open Shop hours to work, study, play, or meet others
  • Join small team projects through Secret Shop Studio
  • Share works-in-progress and receive feedback
  • Find collaborators
  • Learn from people with different backgrounds
  • Experiment with creative and technical projects
  • Build community around making things

We are not trying to recreate something that already exists.

We are trying to build something local, useful, flexible, and alive.

A place where people can show up, make friends, learn skills, start projects, finish projects, and help shape what comes next.

🧪 Learn by Doing#

Secret Shop is built around the idea that people learn best by doing real things with other people.

That might mean:

  • Joining a team
  • Showing a prototype
  • Helping build the space
  • Running an event
  • Teaching someone a tool
  • Asking for feedback
  • Trying something new
  • Failing, adjusting, and continuing

Not everything needs to be perfect.

Not everything needs to be professional.

But things should move forward.

That spirit is at the center of Secret Shop.

🤝 Community First#

Secret Shop is for people who want to create, collaborate, and contribute.

You do not need to be an expert.

You do not need to already know someone.

You do not need to have a finished project.

You can come with a game, a sketchbook, a laptop, an idea, a question, or just curiosity.

Our goal is to create a space where newcomers feel welcome, experienced creators feel useful, and different kinds of people can meet through shared creative work.
